TPI Hires Kyle Brown as Communications Manager & Turf News Editor

Please join me in welcoming Kyle Brown to the TPI family! Kyle began with TPI in August as our new TPI Communications Manager & Turf News Editor. This new role will focus primarily on two key areas. First, Kyle will be managing TPI’s communications to include public relations, advocacy support, and brand management in communication not only with TPI members, but also in TPI communications with other segments of the industry. Additionally, Kyle will be taking over the role as Turf News Editor when Steve and Suz Trusty retire at the end of 2025. Communications, brand management, and Turf News are all so heavily intertwined with each other that this just seems like a great fit. Kyle’s past experience showcases recent and consistent experience in audience engagement, visibility, branding, expansion, and impact. Kyle will be jumping right into the role of TPI Communications Manager and will be working closely with Steve and Suz in the coming months to get up to speed on the Turf News Editor role.

Kyle joins us from Canton, Ohio, where he was most recently one of the leads of the communications team and editor-in-chief at the Irrigation Association.

“I’m excited to join Turfgrass Producer International in the work of promoting natural grass and supporting turfgrass seed and sod professionals,” he says. “Turf News is central to TPI’s mission, and Steve and Suz Trusty have done incredible work in its growth. I’m looking forward to using my skills to connect and educate our members through Turf News and other channels.”

Developing the green industry has been an important part of Kyle’s career, most recently as editor-in-chief at both Irrigation & Lighting and Irrigation Today magazines since 2019. While there he helped lead the successful rebrand of one of the titles and developed the association’s agriculture-focused publication. He’s held multiple roles in turf and agriculture publications, including managing editor for Cannabis Business Times and digital content and associate editor for Golf Course Industry. He has won multiple awards for his writing from the Turf and Ornamental Communicators Association.

Along with his green industry experience, he’s worked for more than 15 years in business-to-business publishing across weekly news, print magazines, email newsletters and podcasts. His background and industry connections will help him get started quickly in the new role, and you’ll begin to see his work relatively soon. You can read more about Kyle and his background in the September/October issue of Turf News.
